The first in a new series of photo essays bringing the best of Norway's stunning natural environment to your screen. The relationship between people and the water in Norway is as tight as Brits and their tea. Whether it's coastline, fjord, lake or river, water is everywhere in Norway and Norwegians make the most of it.

Torfinn believes that Norway differs from other salmon nations due to the fact that is a safe country with easy access to the most famous rivers by bus or train. “Many also actually have an airport at the estuary, because the landscape there is usually flat,” he says. “If you rent an electric car, you can experience several salmon rivers within a short time”, Torfinn recommends.

The River TV series was created by Arne Berggren, who directed show along with Maggi Bergheim. All eight episodes, which aired on Norway’s TV3 inare now on Walter Presents.

Despite a couple of not quite plausible scenes, the story feels authentic. It’s worth noting that The River is inspired by historic events.

And, once again. The book Angling in Norway has extensive descriptions of Trout fishing opportunities in Norwegian rivers, if you can find a copy. Norwegian fishing licenses are needed to fish for trout in Norway. Local tourist information centers often can sell you licenses or tell you where to buy them.

Non-angling visitors (and many Norwegians) may know the river for the Målselvfossen, a waterfall that is one of Norway’s signature landmarks. Below Målselvfossen, the Målselv seems devoid of the features that make a prime salmon stream; above the falls, it’s another matter in a fishery marked by run after run of water begging to be swung.

A Celebration of Salmon Rivers is a book devoted to the Atlantic salmon and to the magnificent coldwater rivers they inhabit. It depicts, in stunning pictures and words, over fifty of the world's finest Atlantic salmon rivers, ranging from Russia, to Scotland, Ireland, Norway Reviews: 3.
